Running a TRX test
The TRX tests can be carried out for Nokia 2nd generation base stations and for Nokia Talk-family of base stations with the STM or with the RFTE. With the RFTE, the test can be carried out via cable. With the STM, the test can also be carried out via air, in addition to cable. For Nokia MetroSite, Nokia Flexi EDGE, and Nokia UltraSite base stations, the TRX test can be carried out without any test equipment. The TRX test is not possible for Nokia InSite base station.
The TRX test checks the radio frequency (RF), digital and analog parts of the BTS and measures how the transmitters and receivers are functioning. When the TRX test is carried out via air, the BTS's RX and TX antennas are also tested. The test gives information on radio level and quality, and this information is indicated as a result of the test. In the TRX test, the BTS sends data to the test equipment, RFTE or STM, which loops it back to the BTS. Thus, the RF signal of one radio timeslot (RTSL) is looped from the transceiver (TX) (transmitter combiner output) to the receiver (RX) (front end input). The TRX test reserves one traffic channel during the test.
The TRX test (performance) can be performed for Nokia MetroSite, Nokia Flexi EDGE, and Nokia UltraSite. It tests both diversity branches even if the diversity is not configured. Testing both of the diversity branches is possible because the loop is made via antenna coupling instead of antenna. TRX tests make a loop between the radio frequency part (RF) and the transmission unit (DTRU) or a loop between the RF part and the D-bus (in the case of a low cost DTRU). The test only take 5 seconds. For Nokia MetroSite, Nokia Flexi EDGE, and Nokia UltraSite the test reserves two traffic channels.
The result of the test can be PASSED, FAILED or INCONCLUSIVE. If the test result is FAILED, check that the threshold values are reasonable. If the test result is INCONCLUSIVE, check the reason field of the test report.
The test results are reported locally at the BSC site as alarm printouts and they are also stored in the BSC's test report history. Test results are stored for the TRX that has been tested. Failed measurement results are reported as alarms. If the TRX test is FAILED, the alarm 7752 (TRX TEST FAILED) is set. By default, this alarm is blocked in the BSC's alarm system. If the TRX test (performance) is FAILED, the alarm 7735 (TRX TEST FAILED) is set. You can modify the PASSED/FAILED threshold limits with the MML commands of the UC command group.
Running a TRX loop test
The TRX loop test can be carried out with Nokia Talk-family of base stations and Nokia PrimeSite without test equipment. The TRX loop test tests the RF parts of the BTS, and A/D and D/A conversions. The TRX is looped from the TX to the RX inside the TRX so that complete TX and RX chains are tested. The TRX loop test reserves two traffic channels during the test.
The test results are reported locally at the BSC site as alarm printouts and they are also stored in the BSC's test report history. FAILED measurement results are reported as alarm 7753 (TRX LOOP TEST FAILED). By default, this alarm is blocked in the BSC's alarm system. You can modify the PASSED/FAILED threshold limits with the MML commands of the UC command group.
