UMTS Signalling - 3 days
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course, the participant will:
Have a thorough understanding of the architecture and functions of the protocols used on the different interfaces in a UMTS network.
Be able to search, find and understand relevant information in the UMTS specifications and similar documents, regarding UMTS protocol functions and signalling procedures with particular reference to Uu, Iub, Iur and Iu interfaces.
Through the combination of detailed descriptions and system-wide overview provided in the course be able, for example, to 'locate' a signalling problem to a specific network node, interface or protocol.
SUITABLE FOR: Those who require in-depth knowledge of UMTS, with particular reference to the Uu, Iub, Iur and Iu interfaces.
PREREQUISITES: UMTS System Intensive and UMTS-UTRAN Protocols & Procedures.
CONTENTS: The course provides a thorough understanding of the architecture and functions of the protocols used on the different interfaces in a UMTS network, with focus on the UE-UTRAN-SGSN/MSC part. All higher layer protocols (Access Stratum) are described in detail. Extractions from the 3GPP specifications are used in addition to the course documentation to highlight certain protocol functions.
Signalling flows for certain important signalling procedures are investigated step by step, looking at each message and its contents in detail.

• The protocol architecture in the UE. Detailed description of each protocol: functions, procedures, message format and coding.
