General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) provides packet data services to Global
System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Wideband Code Division
Multiple Access (WCDMA) systems. It provides a basic solution for Internet
Protocol (IP) communication between Mobile Stations (MSs) and the Internet,
corporate Local Area Networks (LANs), or operators' service networks. The
purpose of this document is to give an overview of the GPRS technology.
The Ericsson GPRS solution complies with the Third Generation Partnership
Project (3GPP) Release 8 specifications and is backward compatible with
the 3GPP Release 7, 3GPP Release 6, 3GPP Release 5, 3GPP Release 4,
European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) GSM standard
for GPRS Release 97/98, and the 3GPP GSM and WCDMA Release
99 specifications. The Ericsson GPRS solution is integrated with the
Circuit-Switched (CS) part of the Ericsson GSM and the WCDMA Systems.
