For the coming 3G MPP_WCDMA MSC Pool Proxy project in China Unicom, we have ordered the STP in BETE for pretest and certificate the upgrade path from R5 to R6, also the 3G MPP_WCDMA MSC Pool Proxy feature in MGw.
The reason to use MGw as signaling proxy is that the RAN nodes can’t support A/Iu flex. The 2G MPP is implemented by China Mobile last year, for this time, we just test the 3G MPP feature.
One thing mentioned is that normally for Ericsson’s BSC/RNC, A/Iu flex is supported, so we just use A/Iu flex to involve the RAN side nodes to the MSC Pool. Since there are only Ericsson’s RAN Nodes, we use them to simulate the nodes which do not support the A/Iu flex.
We should also notice that the network level’s backup for MGw is not supported by this feature, also the signaling proxy will increase the workload of the MGw and the time for signaling transmission.
